Take on the Nimzo-Indian Defense

Lapoc Chess Board, Issue #097 -- GOTM #67

The Nimzo-Indian Defense is a great system for Black. This system arises in the 1.d4 lines. It makes it hard for White to play e4 later in the opening. The c3-Knight is pinned to the King and by the time this pressure is resolved Black can occupy e4 himself.

This whole idea can be a real drag if you're playing with the White pieces. No one likes when their opponent forces them to abandon their preferred development for something less pleasing to them. So what to do?

Fear not, you can play against this system and reach interesting games. You can even opt for an energetic sharp fight with sacrifices galore, if that's your thing.

This month's game is brought to you from Szeged in 1997 and our two gladiators are Suat Atalik with the White pieces up against Gyula Sax with Black. Enjoy.

And Black resigns.

(26.Qd7+ He could see he was going down: 26...Kf8 27.Qg7+ Ke8 28.Bf6+- And Black has no saving resource.)

1-0

Atalik, Suat (2590) - Sax, Gyula (2570)
